BW Performance Tuning Book Released
The business environment is changing at a rapid pace and so is the fierceness in competition. Today’s business demands decision at the ‘speed of thought’. It is obvious that such decisions need most efficient information acquisition, integration, transformation and finally presentation in the most efficient way at a matching speed and without increasing the cost of doing so.
A data warehouse is set up in a company with a clear focus to support decision support system involving collecting useful information, harmonizing it and transforming and finally presenting it for answering business questions. For instance ‘What is the sales trend of a specific material?’
It is an established fact that most SAP-BW projects succeed when they deliver the above objectives by providing;
1.     Acquiring data from various data sources like OLTP system and presenting accurate information.
2.     A Capability to provide drill-down or ‘slice-n-dice’ capability for analyzing the different perspective of the information.
3.     Decision support enablers like Self service options, Exception reporting etc.
...
In this book we have listed performance tuning parameters right through the data model, to extraction of data, to data loading, to fine tuning of the database while ending with proactive operational maintenance mode (e.g. review aggregates, build new ones, delete unused ones, find problem queries) as an ongoing cycle.
Also covered in the book is how to evaluate the actual performance whether there is a scope of improvement or other avenues of performance tuning have to be explored. However the book is not dealing with ‘extremely technical’ aspects of the performance tuning, as such content would cater to “purely technical readers.

ERPGenie.COM News
- We have temporarily suspended the job and resume hosting services until we are able to relaunch the new functionality. We will be doing so in the latter part of July
- We are reworking the entire website to make it more flexible and database driven, allowing easier searching
- We will also be adding a new database to the mix, namely a solutions database where we will list all ERP related 3rd party solutions available for your review
- Our ABAP tips and tricks database is growing like crazy so keep those tips coming
- When you register for ERPGenie, ABAP tips and tricks or the solutions database your user ID and password will remain the same between the databases
I'm excited about these new developments. It's been about 5 years since our last major overall and it was time to jump into the 21st century....

ASUG and SAPPHIRE 2007
SAP put on an incredible show with almost zero glitches. 10/10 for presentation.
Once again, it was very interesting walking through the shark infested waters known as the "Vendor" hall where each stall has a salesman's eyes tracking you (and in particular, your ID badge) to see if you are to be labeled as a potential victim, um, I mean, customer!!!
It seemed like every stall had a free IPod drawin, except most were drawing at the end of the conference when most people were stranded at Atlanta airport, due to the storms around the country!
Needless to say, the IPods are safely in someone else's pocket but my kids did come away with some goodies.... The big hit was Esker's little luminous stick on lights. They must have made 100,000 of these things and about the same number of T-Shirts. They take the overall prize for money well spent... They can tell us if it was well spent. ;) Bouncing balls, glowing balls, shirts, .... all made the trip home.
I sat through 2 usability sessions on Redwood and Supply Chain Event Management's integration with Outlook and those were fun. They dished out some nice thank you gifts there as well.
At my talk, which seemed to be about a mile from the "Shark Tank", there were a few interested folks which I was pleased with. In addition to the talk, I was able to catch up with several colleagues of the past including Dave (Hoosie), Laurent, Brian, John, Sue, Julie, Greg, Shreekant, ... You know who you are and it was great catching up with you.
Hopefully we'll all meet again at Tech-Ed.... and then meet some new faces.
